Well, my pretties, it feels good. I was getting ready to upload some code to investigate the random instant deaths occuring in the open beta, and I got it into my head to add the “/takelead” command.
It’s been in for a while but, between you and I, it would have been abused by the smacktards, ya know, /takelead’ing off anyone they wanted to annoy.
Right now there is a concept of “defacto leader” – when this guy loses his mission, he gets to take it back whenever he likes within a 6 minute period. After the 6 minutes are up, the then leader becomes the new defacto leader and gets the same 6-min window if he gets usurped.
Also, to prevent weenie leader-grabbing, I assigned grace periods to a bunch of activities — posting /orders, assigning a backup leader, posting/affirming waypoints and contact reports, becoming leader… But I also made going AFK bite into those. The longer you have yourself marked as AFK the less grace you get.
The one thing I didn’t do – undecided on this – is make it so that you can’t /takelead from someone who is /ignoring you. It was the only mechanism I could think of to keep someone from harrasing you with it. Oh, I know you want a /kick type command, but that’s not gonna happen ;)
